Oh yeah! Thrasher's french fries!

Have you ever had Thrasher's french fries? If you haven't, you don't know what you are missing. These are simply the best french fries you'll ever have. And you can only get 'em on the boardwalk in Ocean City, MD. Thrasher's has been around for nearly 80 years. There are three locations on the boardwalk and the one closest to the inlet is always packed. People stand in line for Thrasher's all the time. Though to be honest, Thrasher's employees have the system down pat. And customers who don't, learn very quickly. Think Soup Nazi from Seinfeld. There are only two items on the menu, french fries and soda. And three sizes: small, medium and large. You order, you move down quickly and by the time you pay the fries and drink are ready. (The only complaint I've ever had is Thrasher's serves Pepsi products, not Coke!)



So just in case there was a long line though, we headed to the one on 2nd street where there never is. I know I've already mentioned these fries in my blog twice, but seriously these are amazing. Before we even got to the stand, we spotted a toddler in a stroller eating Thrasher's. But unfortunately I couldn't react quickly enough to get a cell phone picture! A few minutes later, we'd ordered a medium and were set. As I stood there about to take the fries a guy came up to grab more vinegar,yes, you must put vinegar on them! He said to me, "Oh yeah!" then asked, "Do you need vinegar?" When I told him I already put vinegar on there, he seemed skeptical. As if I would skip that part! By the way, Thrasher's only offers salt and vinegar as condiments, no ketchup. You simply can not destroy the taste of these peanut oil-fried deliciousness with ketchup. And don't even think about asking for it.



My mother and I finished a medium in ten minutes. And I'm not kidding. My dad checked his watch. I remember when I thought a small was plenty, but now I only get those tasty fries once a year.

The boardwalk

I just got back from the boardwalk in Ocean City, MD. The ocean breeze was nice considering it was still 85 degrees outside at 10 p.m. It's been quite a while since I've walked the boardwalk at night. I have such fond memories of the boardwalk from my childhood, again in my teens and again in my early 20's when I lived here (and of course was legal drinking age.) If you've never been here before, there are tons of bars, restaurants, stores, arcades and rides. My cell phone pictures unfortunately don't do it justice. Since I still didn't get my Thrashers french fries (see post "OC here I come!" for yummy details) yet I know I'll be back again during the day and will snap a few more pics. But one of the things I like to do the most, well besides eat, is people watch. To be honest the crowd was pretty tame and not too many crazy people. This was probably the most amusing group we saw on the boardwalk.



Why would you do that? Have you never been on vacation before? Then there was a store offering henna tattoos. Too bad they don't know how to spell tattoo. Would they misspell the one you pay for?



If so, at least it's not permanent, right?

OC here I come... before the ocean evaporates!

Tomorrow morning I'm heading to Ocean City, MD for vacation. I'll be spending a week going to the beach,



eating steamed crabs,



hitting the bars/restaurants including Seacrets


and of course hanging out with the family. I love Ocean City. I grew up going there for the summer as a kid, went to college about 45 minutes away and lived there for a while after I graduated. I think it's a pretty special beach resort. But I think the mayor has lost his mind. When my aunt told me about OC's new tourist campaign I thought she was kidding. Take a look:



All I can do is laugh. Does the mayor and his city council seriously think telling people the ocean is going to evaporate in a billion years is going to get people to head to the beach this summer? This may be my last chance? I think I've got about a billion more chances to go. But it did get the commercial on YouTube, so maybe the publicity is working. Either way, I plan on enjoying my vacation in OC. Bring on the steamed crabs and Thrasher's french fries!
